A base for Vasquez - WIP

Hey all, I'm still in the process of finishing the base for my Vasquez miniature.  I had to wait a bit longer than I though for my boyfriend to finish it up for me. He actually scrapped and re-sculpted the secreted resin portion of the base since he wasn't happy with it the first time around.

Here it is in various stages. Please forgive the bad pictures as they are all from my cell phone.
The primer I used is Krylon Camouflage Fusion series the darkest green.
More to come soon.

Kisa & Scratch - Soda Pop Miniatures

Now I've been waiting to paint this miniature since she came out only to find out that 54mm is "my" scale to paint in and she is so much smaller.   I found adjusting from a large scale to a smaller scale is difficult. I want to put all the details into the smaller scale and it just doesn't work.  I ended up painting her twice, the first time I was not happy with my colors so she got a simple green bath.  I almost stuck her in the simple green again right as I was finished but decided to let her live.  I also have her on her Cat Mech so I'll have another chance to paint her later.
I was originally going to put her in a sand scene to really play up the egyptian theme but when the time came to paint it I didn't want to paint yellows and browns so I dug out some blues, purples and even a little red for the sphere. I went with a green marble design for the slats which was actually very fun to paint.  So now it's more like she is out in space and the universe is forming around/for her instead of muckin around in the desert sand.
As always there are a few things I need to go in and fix after view the pictures but nothing serious. So even though I didn't get to paint all the details I wanted, she will still look fabulous on my miniature shelf.

Vasquez WIP

Here is a little preview of my work in progress. I'm calling her Vasquez (Aliens movie) because she is the inspiration for this piece and the figure doesn't have a real name yet.

Ky-ra' Finished

Ky-ra' from Kabuki Models 54mm
After the crazy brightness of my last piece I deiced to go with something a little darker, & quicker to paint as I didn't want to do an over blown base again.  I also didn't want to overwork/overthink the paints so she isn't perfect but i'm happy with her.
Although I'm not too happy with how shiny the sealant turned out especially on the base since it should not be shiny at all. :\  Hopefully it will tone it self down over night.
She was a ton of fun to paint, I enjoyed trying a new skin tone and painting a muscle woman. I even pulled out a few body building magazines for reference.  The main reason I wanted her to be so tan is because I always see these fantasy warriors with pale skin.  I'm sorry but if you were out in the sun all day in a scale mail bikini you would have a tan at the very least.  I used a variety orange brown colors on her skin as well as some purple, red.
The bronze on her armor and helm also have extra greens, golds and brown added for depth.  You can also really see the blue in the silver in these pictures. It's not as bright in person.

Flower Knight - Kingdom Death - Finished

I've finally finished the Flower Knight by Kingdom Death.  I am actually very happy with him as it stands. I really wanted to paint something turquoise and I finally got to do that on his ribbon pantaloons, sleeves and bustle.
Originally when I started on this base it was round and I wanted to have flowers sprouting up behind him and in his foot prints kind of like the forest spirit in Princess Mononoke but it just ended up looking like a bad acid trip while reading Dr Seuss book.  So that base went right in the trash.
I still wanted to give the feeling of something magical happening so I dug around in my bits and found the alter I had bought recently from my local game shop and well I though it was perfect as altars are a place of magical power.  The Raven (Nevermore) was also in my bits box as I bought him for my steampunk picnic diorama and he was just too huge for it. Ravens are huge but not that huge, but he fit in perfectly with the size of the Flower Knight.
So in this scene a sacrifice has been made and the blood is spreading the magic to the arch and ground creating the ivy and flowers.  While this happens the knight ponders a butterfly which has joined him in summoning nature.
The raven  represents that darker side of magic but we all know he is going to be feasting on the lovely lovely guts that remain after the spell has completed.

So the technical stuff:
Arch :  Hirst Arts model which i've used and abused in the past.
Blood/Gore:  Vallejo Water Effects (clear) Mixed with Tamia Red and Black Wash let dry over night then added more red and black.
Flowers & Petals: Fimo- sculpted by hand
Ivy, White Flowers, Tall Grasses : "The Army Painter" Supplies from the local game shop.
Flock: Woodland Scenics Course Turf
Paints: All Vallejo with the exception of the Blood/Gore

*edit* Added a few close up pictures.
